This is one of my first adventures into Young Adult fantasy fiction, and I love this book! Lydia did a great job describing the characters and scenes. There were only a few typographical errors, but it was VERY well written. The story-line was easy to follow; all the characters were realistic, and I could feel the emotions described. For a book where three of the main characters go searching for someone (whom I hope is another main character), it’s very real. I was worried when she disappeared; I felt hope when they found clues that she was still alive, then agony when they were captured by the one who betrayed them. It was a slight surprise when one of their captors helped them escape. I wasn't expecting that from this book, but as that is a common plot twist, it helped ease that character into my favorite part of the story.
Not to copy Rhoda J. Cannon’s review, but this is a VERY clean book. I agree with her rating of it being PG. There was enough description for me to imagine what was going on, but not too much that would give me nightmares. The story ended in a cliffhanger, but that’s okay since this is a series. It ended well enough for me to be patient ‘till the next book.
I love this book, Lydia! You did a fabulous job. ~Amaran's daughter

The Seven Thrones Book One of the Epta Chronicles Volume 1 Lydia R Petersen 9780990738305 Books Reviews
I was pleasantly surprised by this young authors ability to hold my interests throughout the whole book. The attention to details when describing the 7 Realms & 7 Thrones left me entranced.
In today's society it is very hard to find books that are clean. This young author has proved that you can still write a book that is age appropriate without loosing excitement, intrigue & leave you waiting for more. This was a very refreshing read! I can't wait for the second book to be published. Well done Ms. Peterson.
Having read a few YA fantasy books to my kids and reading simultaneously as my kids read their own copy of books, I was pleasantly surprised at how well written this book was for a first time novelist. The setting, plot and characters are well developed. Ms. Petersen's skillful use of language allowed me to picture the thrones and the setting. I loved reading the interactions of the characters. This book has elements of humor, mystery, drama and fantasy. I enjoyed the humor in the characters' dialogue and interactions.
In the beginning I was pulling for Jason. However, by the middle of the book I found myself pulling for Abrax. I felt Ms. Petersen did a wonderful job wrapping up the events in this book while still leaving me anxiously waiting for the next book in the series! I cannot wait for my kids to read this book.
I am not your typical reader of YA fantasy novels, but was pleasantly surprised that this book held my attention. As the story unfolded, the setting, characters and storyline grabbed my imagination so that by the end I really wanted the story to continue and can't wait for the next book in this series.
It did seem to go a little slower at the beginning and there were a couple of times that I got a little confused about some detail, but felt that if I kept reading it would all come to light and it did. This is definitely a way to keep the reader interested and wanting to find out how that particular part fits into the larger storyline.
I did chuckle at times over the antics of these teenagers and not knowing what their age will be at the end of the series, will be interesting to watch how they mature as they travel this adventure and the responsibilities in front of them.
A great first book for this young novelist and anticipate that she will have many more great books to come!
The Seven Thrones was an excellent freshman effort for this young author. Ms. Petersen has done a great job styling a refreshing story. Having read many fantasy works over the years (beginning with The Hobbit as a young child), I am truly impressed with the kingdom of Epta. Within Epta, Ms. Petersen has crafted a believable, unique landscape that is distinctly different from other fantasy worlds. This is *not* thinly-veiled fan fiction, which I greatly appreciate!
There were some areas, especially early in the story, where the dialogue did not flow as smoothly as I might anticipate. It seems that the further along the storyline I found myself, this issue of dialogue did seem to improve. While I found the story a bit slow initially, my imagination was soon captured. I found myself happily reading along, only to find that I had reached the end of the book (though obviously NOT the end of the story!) I look forward to reading the next book.
After receiving this book less than twenty-four hours ago, I flew through it.
Lydia has woven together an intricate world with intriguingly diverse cultures, traditions, and traits. (I was smitten with Lydia's descriptions of the individual realms and their tools.) From the beginning of the story, I was fascinated by the whole plot. I couldn't wait to see who would be the other six rulers, and who Athelia would form relationships, positive or negative, with.
Throughout the story, Lydia manages to keep you on the edge of your seat. There was a lot more action than I anticipated, but it was all cleverly written and fit with the story well. Additionally, the characters' interaction really made the story great. I loved watching my favorite characters bicker and struggle with their obstacles. Well done.
The only drawback I found was a slight confusion in the first couple chapters. It took me a little while to connect who was related with who and how they spoke, but once I had that figured out it was easy to get into the story.
All in all, I LOVED it.
(I want to personally thank the author for resolving the story in the end. It didn't end in a massive cliff-hanger, which would've left me in agony. That doesn't put a damper on my eagerness to read the next installment, though! Yayyy! Publish it soon, okayy?)
